Rabbi Joshua Shorr has been in public service for more than 20 years working in government, academia, serving as a chaplain, and leading congregations on an interim basis. He completed Rutgers University, studying economics and political science, his master’s in international relations at the London School of Economics and his PhD in international psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, with a published dissertation on PTSD in Nigeria. He also completed chaplaincy training including coursework accredited by the University of Maryland, and a certificate in executive leadership from the Naval Postgraduate School (yes, I know it is not Annapolis, but Monterey is beautiful nonetheless). He received semicha from a well-recognized program in Haifa, Israel after many years of yeshiva study and continues his journey of lifetime learning in both Jewish and secular studies. His hobbies are reading (yes, more reading), running, and road trips. He met his wife, Ijeoma while in Nigeria. She is of the Igbo people, an African culture of Jewish origin with a rich cultural history and strong connection to their Jewish heritage and the modern state of Israel. Together they have five children – Shoshana, Shira, Yosef, Yonah, and Tzipora. Note: I am eager to serve the community. If I can be of any assistance (or if you just want to shmooze) feel free to call me at 703-282-5404 or email at [email protected].
